Earthquake!
Don't get freaked out there's going to be no earthquakes it's just a story I've been reading for reading time. This story is a fiction book about a man named Phil Ridley and he gets stuck in an earthquake. Here's a little something to help you. Something's not quite right. Phil Ridley's cat, Rollo, is acting strangely and, late at night, birds are singing. In another part of the city, at the Seismology Research Station, Lucy Washington watches the seismograph in disbelief. There's going to be an earthquake, and it's going to be a big one! Out on the streets, Sergearnt Jeff Finch watches in horror as buildings crumble and cars move about the road like toys. But what about Phil and Rollo? They are in danger and are going to need help-fast! So will Phil and Rollo survive or will they be crushed? You should read this book because I bet you want to know if Phil and Rollo gets crushed or will they get rescued and survive. Also you should read this book because it's a great way to kind of understand how earthquakes work and what to have ready if an earthquake hits.

Rm 1 fantastic ANZAC art!!!
In room 1 we have been doing tonal modelling ANZAC art. I have done my ANZAC art that includes a flag pole with the mast half way down, with a cross on the hill so that represents that some one important has died and is buried on the hill the person is from ANZAC war. The poppies stand for ANZACs.
Horton is in RM1
At Summerland we have had a book character parade and I went as Horton hears a who. It was really embarrassing because I looked really fat but I had fun while being fat because I had pillows and people were punching them, it felt funny. I went as Horton because he was one of my favourite characters and he inspires me because he believed in something that no one did and he didn't care what people said, it was just about what he thought.
Book character day
On friday the 18th we had to dress up as or favourite book character. I went as a girl named sophie she writes a series of books. Some adventures and some are romantic. I wore a long black and wite skirt, a white, black and silver top and a purple poncho with a grey hat and pink glasses. It was fun to see all the things you could be and were I guess i'm saying it was amazing.

Book Character Day Fun
On the 18th we had a book character parade. I was Clint Eastwood. I chose to be Clint Eastwood because it was a last minute thing that didn't cost anything and it turned out awesome. Here's a little bit about the story: It starts of with Clint taking a whole lot of cows across a stream and then some bandits come and ask him where he got the cattle and he lies so they hang him but the a marshal comes along rescues him and takes him to the county sheriff who takes him to jail but then the governor general asks him to be a marshal, so in the end it all works out for him. I had a great time at the book character parade ad there were many great costumes and I bet everybody else did to.
Book charater day
Last week we had a book character week and that meant the whole school could dress up as there best book character that they thought was cool. I dressed up as shaggy. I dressed up as him because I asked my sister " who should I dress up as" and she said "Shaggy" so I went and got some pants and an old green t-shirt and put my old boots on and a jacket that looks like shaggy's . my sister and I like shaggy because he's funny and is scared of things that aren't scary.

Basketball Field Day Fun
Yesterday a whole lot of Summerland students and I went to the Waitakere trust stadium to play basketball and I was number 7. At first I had a weird feeling in my stomach but when the games began I started to feel better. The first game we played we were against Western Heights and we won! In all the games we had we won 2, lost 1 and drew 1. I had a great day and I bet everybody else did. Now basketball is one of my favourite sports because even though it was my first time I loved it.

Danny the champion of the world.
Danny the champion of the world is a book about Danny and his father who are mechanics who fix cars and test them. They also have there own gas station. Danny and his father live in a caravan which was made round the 1700’s and was towed by horses but now it is to old and ruggid to be towed.
One night when danny was asleep his father went out poaching because he couldn’t resist it and he thought danny will be okay because he never wakes up but danny did and danny started to panic and he waited outside on there doorstep for him and when he saw his dad he ran to him gave him a big hug and screamed WHERE WERE YOU I WAS SO WORRIED! Danny’s dad didn’t want to tell danny he went poaching because he thought danny might tell him off because it’s band in there area and half the people who went poaching got arrested but when he told danny he went poaching for pheasants danny allowed him to carry on because if he does wake up again danny would know where his father was.
On a tuesday night danny’s dad told danny he will be going poaching and will be home at 12.00 o’clock and once again danny woke up the clock said two in the morning and his dad wasn’t back DANNY WAS WORRIED THE MOST HE HAD EVER BEEN.

ANZAC animations.
Room 1 are learning to make animations. Our animations are about ANZAC day. We are using play-doh for the people and other toys from home such as sylvanian families, polly pockets, barbies, lego etc. At the end of the session if we had play-doh we had to put it in a ice-cream container. We were scared it would dry out but one day we went to use it and... it was soggy!!! To a lot of people animations are new so we’ve learnt a lot from this super fun activity. It is taking longer than some expected because you have to do more than you expected such as designing the set, painting the set, making the people from play-doh, making the credits, taking all those pictures, bringing in props from home and HEAPS more. We have learnt heaps from the youtube videos like fps (frames per second) We have found out that the more fps the more smoother it will be. We hope that they turn out good!!!

My Aunty in Gallipoli
My name is Jared Wemyss and I was very proud to be asked to represent the school for Anzac Day at Swanson RSA this year. I am very lucky to still have 4 of my great grandparents and I normally attend the Tititrangi RSA service with my great grandfather, great grandmother, nana, my mum and my brother. This year though we were not only spread across West Auckland attending services, we were spread over the world.
My Aunty Karen is a Flight Lieutenant in the RNZAF, based in Blenheim. She was lucky enough to be chosen to join the defence force group travelling to Turkey to commemorate Anzac day in the places it all happened. It’s been 95 years this year and she was very proud to join the group of defence staff, War Veteran’s and high school pupils heading to Turkey to join many other New Zealanders, Turks and Australians in attending the Commemorative Service on 24 April and then the Dawn Service at Anzac Cove on 25 April.
I know my Aunty loves her job in the Air force and is always ready to serve her country and perform whatever tasks are asked of her. I am very proud of my Aunty as is the rest of our family.

Room 1's Statistics Investigation
Room 1 is doing a statistics Investigation. We had to think of a question with a good reason to ask, e.g: " What is your favourite pet??" and go around the classes and ask them. It was hard to find a reason because we couldn't really think of a reason for our question. We had about 6 options and they had two vote for one of them. Then we collected the data and put it into a bar chart. We came up with 3 statements about the data. We went onto numbers on the laptops and put it into a tally. Then that onto a bar chart. We dragged the bar chart with all the data onto comic life. We put on our 3 statements and our reason and then printed it off and we are going to display them in our class-room.We are very proud of what we have achieved!!!

Buddy Reading
Last week Room 1 and Room 4 got together to do some buddy reading. Room 4 bought their reading books with them and we found a place to sit in the pod. Our little buddies did some reading to us first. Then we went to their classroom and chose a picture book to read to them. They found the books really interesting. We were excited to work with a buddy from Room 4 because we haven't worked with them very much this year. Our buddies tried so hard to work out words they didn't know. Our buddies really looked up to us and listened carefully when we were trying to help them. It was challenging getting our buddies to sound out some words correctly especially when they really didn't know the word. Next time we think we might bring one of our own books and read to them to show our good reading strategies. We did some thinking about our own thinking while were buddy reading and thought about what questions I might ask next to make sure they know what the story was about.
